Stunnin...DC can be stunningly tone-deaf sometimes. Stunningly.

That said, I have to admit that I'm not getting my knickers into too much of a twist, because as you say, Gorillas are native to Africa. And, if there is one animal that has been associated with DC, it has to be gorillas, apes, chimps and monkeys.

Exactly WHY, I couldn't tell you, but really, when you start looking, DC has a LOT of primates running around. I'm rather partial to Detective Chimp, and that cool talking vampire Nazi Gorilla from the Doctor Thirteen mini. He's fabulous!

I really don't think that DC meant to insult anyone. But boy, are they thick sometimes.SallyPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05592635194271250605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38514384.post-77432380757959854972011-05-31T21:07:02.079-07:002011-05-31T21:07:02.079-07:00A couple things I want to clarify, just in case (i...A couple things I want to clarify, just in case (if I repeat myself and/or say things you feel obvious, that's just me being cautious):

1. I STILL think "Ape-controlled" was jaw-droppingly racially tone-deaf. "Grodd-controlled" would have sufficed.

http://stars-and-garters.blogspot.com/2011/05/flashpoint-map-really-dc.html

2. I was mainly disagreeing about Grodd controlling Africa AND ONLY THAT. I was leaving the other controversies re: Asia, South America, etc. out of the discussion to keep myself focused.

3. I concede that Johns = unimaginative.

4. I get the racial context robot 6 was discussing.

http://stars-and-garters.blogspot.com/2009/02/of-cartoons-chimps-and-context-when.html

I just didn't think it applied to Gorilla City or Grodd for reaons I explained.notinthefacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12537680561821564347noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38514384.post-19170576376510351212011-05-31T19:46:23.108-07:002011-05-31T19:46:23.108-07:00You should go check out the discussion on Robot6. ...You should go check out the discussion on Robot6.
