Friday Night Fights: Hands Of Stone - Round 6: Phantom Pain!

I won the previous round of Friday Night Fights: Hands Of Stone with my Hawkman-on-the-playground entry, and when that happens, as fans of the blog know,  my immediate next entry always relates to the Legion of Super-Heroes. This time we're focusing on one of my personal favorites, Tinya Wazzo aka Phantom Girl.

Tonight's intangible embroglio comes from Superboy#215, written by Cary Bates and illustrated by Mike Grell. Synopsis: Phantom Girl takes a 1-week vacation on her own planet Bgtzl, where all the natives of her planet share her phantom powers. This fact allows an assassin named Ron-Vizl to murder one of the planet's natives by getting him to turn phantom and shooting him with a gun that fires intangible energy-bursts phased to the same frequency.

Unfortunately for Ron-Vizl, the murder had a witness.

Uh-oh, Ron-Vizl, you and that 30th Century porn-stache you're rocking are in for it now!

With Tinya bearing down on him, the killer reacts....

...by turning the phantom-energy gun on her! How will PG escape?

By doing this...

And before Ron can whip out a weapon that can kill someone other than phantoms, Tinya wraps things up with a double-bell-bottomed kick!

And this time when I say "Ooh, that had to hurt!", I really mean it. Check out how far backward the killer's spine bends when Tinya hits him. I've noticed in some early Mike Grell stories, he'd have the kayoed villains' backs contort into positions so painful that Ami should feature them on her Escher Girls tumblr.

Tonight's fight music is by Phantom Planet, in honor of tonight's battleground being a phantom planet.

That...that's amazing! And her bellbottoms have the added benefit of slowing her down...just like a parachute!

Actually, she's got a flight ring. But I like the way you think!
