Friday Night Fights: Karate Kick - Round 5: Not-So-Cuddly Toy!
For the Friday Night Fights: Karate Kick bout, our host Spacebooger has instructed us that each fight should include a kick to any part of the opponent's body. He also stressed that the kick should be awesome. So, to that end, one of the first things to come to mind is tonight's toy-mendous tussle from Superman#305, written by Martin Pasko and beautifully illustrated by Curt Swan and Bob Oksner.
Synopsis: Metropolis Coliseum has been destroyed, apparently by a figure wearing a Superman costume. Of course, everyone in Metropolis thinks the vandal was Superman. (Spoiler: It was actually Bizarro, accidentally flung into the coliseum by a cosmic storm.) Unfortunately, among the things destroyed was a display put together by former Toyman Winslow Schott of all his greatest toy inventions. Schott blames the Man Of Steel for the destruction of his life's work and comes out of retirement to seek revenge using a giant robot toy of himself. Superman investigates the wreckage and repairs the outer wall damage, only to be attacked by Schott in the aformentioned robot toy.
What makes tonight's featured kick stand out is....
....Curt Swan's undisputed mastery of the after-image.
Even though the toy the Man Of Tomorrow faced tonight was anything but cuddly, I thought this tune by Roachford was appropriate fight music for tonight's round.
