Friday Night Fights: Mosquito - Round 5: Caught Red (Sun) Handed!

For tonight's round of Friday Night Fights: Mosquito, I'm focusing on one of DC's "Digital First" comics' earliest successes, Smallville: Season 11. This digital series continues from where the TV show finale left off, showing Clark Kent in Metropolis after he has donned the mantle of Superman. This series, in my own humble opinion, has all of the TV series' strengths (the portrayals of Lois, Lex, Ollie, and Chloe synch up with and none of its weaknesses (primarily because Clark finally has donned the Superman mantle and we get to actually see it). As a bonus, we have a more heroic Supes and a better (because it actually exists!) Clark/Lois romantic relationship than in the Nu52.

One of the adjustments that you have to make going in is that it's in "Smallville" continuity, not the mainstream DC continuity, either pre- or post-Flushpoint. So there are some....interesting deviations. This scene from Smallville: Season 11 #15, written by Bryan Q. Miller and illustrated by Chris Cross and Marc Deering, is a perfect example, as it details the Smallville-verse's first encounter between Superman and Batman. Synopsis: Bats is interrogating Bruno Mannheim for information regarding Intergang's sale of weaponry to Joe Chill in Gotham City. (Yes, it's that Joe Chill. Different continuity, remember?)

One of those deviations I mentioned is that the person on the line with Bruce is none other than Barbara Gordon a.k.a. .........Nightwing.

But who interrupted the interrogation?

Who else?

The reversed word balloons Bats is speaking in? Another deviation.

But there's one area where Smallville Batman is just like his mainstream continuity counterpart:

The ability to do wonders with.....

....PREP TIME!

So Bruce has turned on his special red solar-powered gloves. But what damage can they do?

Answer:

THAT!!!

Tonight's fight music is by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. OK, technically, Bruce is hitting Clark with his red LEFT hand, but he still HAS a red right hand, so.....just leave me alone!!!
