Friday Night Fights: G7 - Fight Music! Round 10: I Saw The (Doctor) Light!

Back in Round 5 of Friday Night Fights: G7, I fulfilled my promise to Spacebooger that I would post at least one Hal Jordan head injury entry. But Hal head injury posts are like potato chips: Who can stop at just one?

Time to crank up our fight music, which comes to us this week from Todd Rundgren:

"Then you gazed up at me

And the answer was plain to see

'Cause I saw the light...in your eyes."

Doctor Light, that is. Back in the good old days. Before Marv Wolfman and John Ostrander turned him into comedy relief (albeit entertaining), and before Brad Meltzer...well, don't get me started on that whole fiasco. When he was a bit of a corny Snidely Whiplash villain, but still quite dangerous, with an interesting and formidable power-set which, in all honesty, made him kind of a badass. Without having to rape anyone.

This high-light comes from Green Lantern#33, "Wizard of the Light-Wave Weapons" by Gardner Fox, Gil Kane & Sid Greene.

Spacebooger says: "Lights out!"

Well...Hal IS an easy target. It's just too easy to find these sorts of pictures.

Heh.

Wait, Dr. Light used to both not suck for comedy *AND* not suck because some writer/editor thought it would be "edgy"? I miss those days.

Actually,"those days" would also be about 10-12 years ago. That's when Ron Marz revived Dr. Light during FINAL NIGHT and then Grant Morrison used him in JLA:ROCK OF AGES. He was a bit of a coward, but he was also serious and dangerous (but NOT grim and gritty or rapey). He turned Green Lantern's ring constructs against him and turned Electric Superman into radio waves, among other things.
