Friday Night Fights: Ghost - Round 4: Strange To The Finish!

For tonight's special Halloween round of Friday Night Fights: Ghost, I'm taking a trip through fellow FNFer Snell's usual stomping ground, but this time I'm journeying through a darker unexplored corner of it, courtesy of this seafaring story from Bela Lugosi's Tales From The Grave#2, written by Kerry Gammill and illustrated by Kamil "Kurt" Kochanski.

Synopsis: A scavenger ship has discovered an old boat from the 1930's at the bottom of the sea. The vessel appears to be covered by a....thick, leafy, green vegetable substance. When their diver explores the craft further...

When the crew subsequently encounters turbulent sea waves and then notice two nearby sharks torn completely in two, they waste no time pulling up anchor and making a quick exit. But they haven't exactly made a clean getaway, as they find out when this crewman checks on the pilot and finds....

Wait, was that.......? Could it be....?

Uhh, that's a....new trick for him.

But where could this strange sailor be headed? And to meet whom?

She's looking a bit haggard.

I don't even want to know what happened to Olive and Swea'Pea.

Considering the comic title, you's think that tonight's fight music would be Bauhaus' most popular number. But since the late Mr. Lugosi was only the narrator here, it felt more appropriate to tailor the fight music toward our popped-eyed protagonist instead, so I'm forgoing Peter Murphy's former band in favor of Fiona Apple.

Friday Night Fights: Ghost - Round 3: Zombie Rock!

For tonight's round of Friday Night Fights: Ghost I've decided to start the Halloween fun a little early, courtesy of this little "From Dusk 'Til Dawn" style fracas from the talented team of writer Ken Lowery and artist Shawn McGuan. It's from BOO! Halloween Stories, Vol 1, Issue#2, a 4-issue anthology of ghoulish goodies brought together by Jon Morris.

Synopsis: Siblings Johnny and June have come to see rockers The Dead at Johnny's insistence. While the significantly-less-enthusiastic June has gone to the ladies' room, the band begins its set.

 So when June gets back....

I know what you're thinking: June's completely screwed, right?

Not quite.

To read the rest, pick it up on Comixology here.

If you liked that, here's a link to the upcoming BOO! Halloween Stories Vol#2, which includes another story starring Johnny & June courtesy of Ken and Shawn.

And here's some fight music from the band which helped inspired the story's look.

Friday Night Fights: Ghost - Round 2: The Bigger They Are....

Tonight's round of Friday Night Fights: Ghost features a bit of a "David vs. Goliath" situation. This imbalanced embroglio comes from Wonder Woman#175, written and drawn by Phil Jiminez and inked by Andy Lanning(?). Synopsis: Circe has cast a spell that has transported every male superhero and villain on Earth to New York City and transformed them into strange creatures. She has also brought in an army of supervillainesses who end up either (a) hunting the transformed men, or (b) generally rampaging and looting across the city. Circe's archenemy Wonder Woman, in turn, has assembled a team of superheroines to rescue the men and restore order. (It's a contrived premise, but the story is a lot of big dumb fun nonetheless.)

A few of those heroines have just run up against a very BIG problem.

The girl with the plan is none other than Cassie Sandsmark aka Wonder Girl.

What is Cassie's plan? Let's take a look.

Look, that's Monster Girl from the 90's series Young Heroes In Love alongside Empress from Young Justice. The woman being clocked is The Sylph, whose chief weapon is....lots of fabric. Three fun characters whom the Nu52 ran out of continuity.

Ok, back to Cassie.

She's kind of got a point, Giganta. You should've seen that coming from a mile away. Especially since a mile away is significantly less distant at your size.

TIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMBEEEEEEERRRRRRR!!!!!!

Tonight's fight music by Jimmy Cliff is also about hard falling.

Friday Night Fights: Ghost - Round 1: (Bat) Boot To The Head!

For the opening round of our host Spacebooger's new Friday Night Fights bout, "Ghost", I've decided to commemorate this week's new-look Batgirl comics debut by showing you a classic adventure involving our favorite Dominoed Daredoll from Batman Family#5, written by Cary Bates and Elliot S! Maggin and illustrated by Curt Swan and Vince Colletta. Synopsis: Our heroine and Robin thwart the criminal organization MAZE's attempts to assassinate a visiting princes through some fancy footwork.

Nice moves, but how will Batgirl stop the assassin from shooting them from so far away?

Oh, that's how.

In honor of tonight's long-distance boot to the head, our fight music is by the The Frantics.
