Friday Night Fights: Karate Kick - Round 12: Dracula On Ice!

Tonight is the final round of the Friday Night Fights: Karate Kick bout. Our host Spacebooger has given us one special rule: Each entry needs to include a fight scene from a comic between 2 or more characters where one of them kicks another. This round is taking place on the weekend right before Halloween. Combine those two facts and really, the only fight I can post that fits both themes is this bit of vampire-vanquishing from Planetary#13, written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by John Cassaday.

Synopsis: In 1920, a 20-year-old Elijah Snow, while tracking a global conspiracy, has used a secret map of the world to locate a special home in London housing one of the co-conspirators, one Sherlock Holmes. However, unbeknownst to Elijah, Holmes has a....special guest.

"It".

Elijah seems to be in trouble here, but luckily, he's learned to....play it cool.

VERY cool.

OUCH!

Friday Night Fights: Karate Kick - Round 11: Batgirl's Bag Of Kicks!

Since our humble host Spacebooger scored a previous round victory using the Stephanie Brown Batgirl, I figured I'd give it a shot with the original herself, Barbara Gordon. Better yet, I'm having her bring the Kane Pain tonight, courtesy of Detective Comics #389, written by Frank Robbins and illustrated by Gil Kane and Murphy Anderson.

Synopsis: Barbara answers an ad from airline hostess Darlene Dawson to dress as Batgirl at an awards ceremony in Darlene's stead, since Darlene claims she has to celebrate her grandfather's birthday the same evening. Unfortunately, it's a set-up: Darlene is actually double-crossing her gang of jewelry smugglers by keeping some jewels they smuggled for herself and her accomplice, dear old Grandpa, and setting up Barbara to be killed by the gang in her place. (Notice the gang in question is dressed in a Justice League motif.)

What a pickle! How will Babs get out of it?

Answer: Like this!

And for our fight music, here's Babs' very own theme song.

Friday Night Fights: Karate Kick - Round 10: Slick Thinking!

For the Friday Night Fights: Karate Kick bout, our host Spacebooger has instructed us that each fight should include a kick to any part of the opponent's body. Tonight's point of impact is the shoulders, courtesy of Superman: The Man Of Steel#33 by Louise Simonson, Jon Bodganove, and Dennis Janke. Synopsis; During the Reign Of The Superman story arc, Superman was restored to full power by a massive Engine City energy blast filtered through the Eradicator's body. Unfortunately, the blast did the job too well, causing our Man Of Tomorrow to continue absorbing too much power, causing his body to mutate and grow and leaving him with a dangerous (and rapidly increasing) level of power. The scientists at Cadmus concocted a way to have the Parasite absorb Superman's excess power at a rate where they can still keep him imprisoned and under control. However, Parasite absorbs too much of Superman's energy too quickly, causing him to break free. Luckily, he's gained Supes' strength and invulnerability but not his flight or vision powers. Un-luckily, he has gained Supes' super-speed, meaning he's fast enough to dodge anything Big Blue can throw at him from a distance.

Oh, no! The Man Of Steel will really have to use his brains to get out of this one.

Turns out he uses not only his brains, but also, per Spacebooger's special rule for this bout....

....his FEET!

So how does this stop Parasite? Let the Cadmus scientists explain that.

Very...uh....slick, Supes!

Tonight's absorbing anthem is by Kiss.

Friday Night Fights: Karate Kick - Round 9: Party Crashers!

Well, I'm halfway through Netflix' Luke Cage series and so far I'm loving every minute of it. In honor of that, I'm taking this week's furious feet selection from a comic he co-starred in back in the late 70's. Tonight's power-tussle comes from Power Man and Iron Fist#50, written by Chris Claremont and drawn by John Byrne and Dan Green. Synopsis: Luke Cage, who has just been cleared of the crimes he was framed of, is the guest of honor at a party thrown by his lawyer, Jeryn Hogarth. A brother bounty hunter team named Stiletto and Discus crash the get-together to try to bring Luke in to justice anyway. Luke, along with his friends Danny "Iron Fist" Rand, Colleen Wing, and Misty Knight, aim to make sure that doesn't happen.

Iron Fist is NOT happy about Discus' action.

And neither is Colleen Wing.

Tonight's cutting fight music is by Billy Joel.
